Why a New Diploma
& Why Now
For years, international schools have been creating powerful programs and experiences for our learners that are project-based, interdisciplinary, and prepare students to lead their own learning.
But we’ve been innovating in isolation. In May of 2024, more than 150 educators from 90 schools came together at the American International School of Budapest for the Pathways Summit.
The purpose: design a collaborative high school diploma around three core student needs that are vital for them to thrive.
Why We Prioritize
Impact
Research from William Damon at Stanford University shows that when students have a pro-social purpose and their learning has impact, they are far more motivated and resilient.
Our students need more than content mastery.
They need autonomy and drive, they need purpose and opportunities to contribute, and they need the ability to lead meaningful lives in an increasingly complex world.
GID Schools
for 2026-2027
The Global Impact Diploma has been purposefully designed by schools for schools.
In addition to sharing courses and resources, we collaborate frequently through communities of practice, GID Summits, and more.
To join the GID movement, schools can choose to become Diploma Schools or Collaborating Schools.
